Trip to Beijing Cuandixia Village
Jul 26th
The road to Cuandixia – once a one-day ride by horse from Tian’anmen Square – is now a three-hour drive through modern China. High-rise apartments give way to low-rise industrial suburbs as you escape the city, passing one of Beijing’s many power stations on the way to a mountain road that winds underneath Brobdingnagian overhead heavy-rail interchanges and alongside fields continuously cultivated since the dawn of time.
The village belongs to the Qingshui River Valley, thus, the grass is lush and trees are luxuriant. Walking in the village, visitors will feel they have entered an ideal world. It is also a natural place to make films and TV plays. The farmers of Cuandixia Village keep in step with the times and they exploit the idea of folk-custom tourism to welcome tourists home and abroad. At evening, there are varied amusements, such as outdoor movies and campfire parties.
Most of the artwork still remaining in the village is from this time. Romantic vistas and ornate detail work in wood and stone vie for attention as one progresses up the hill, and the decoration becomes more apparent as the wealth of the inhabitants would also have increased with such a climb in ancient times.
Cuandixia can be visited at any time during the year and if one wants to think about something else than the usual worries that follow us every day, then this little village with its warmhearted and welcoming inhabitants is the perfect way to rediscover the beauty of peace and nature.
